Spay Day 2010
National Spay Day was Sunday February 28th this year and once again Hatton Vet Hospital
staff volunteered their time and the Hospital donated medication, supplies and anesthesia to
neuter 38 cats, spay 6 cats and neuter 9 dogs! We were fortunate to have a great support team
and several of our clients also helped us with our effort this year. Thanks to everyone 53
more animals are no longer able to have unwanted offspring or associated illnesses.
Check out a few photos from this year's busy day...
You can learn more about this very successful community event by visiting the

"California Healthy Pets Act" or the mandatory spay/neuter bill, Assembly Bill 1634.
Nearly one million animals enter California shelters every year at an average annual cost
of $275 million. More than 51% of these animals are killed. That means over 500,000 animals
a year, or over 1,500 animals per day. This bill would address these issues by prohibiting
any person from owning or possessing any cat or dog over the age of 6 months that has not been
spayed or neutered, unless that person possesses an intact permit.

Newly enacted legislation for controled substances
In compliance with the Department of Justice's CURES program (Controlled Substance Utilization
Review and Evaluation System) if your pet receives a controlled drug we will need to keep a record
of your pets medication, and as the pets owner, your date of birth for identification.

- Pet Food Recall Information
Tests of some affected product have not definitively revealed the cause
of sickness. A chemical known as melamine is implicated, but it may not be the only cause.
There have been a number of reported cases of cats and dogs in the US becoming sick and developing
signs of kidney failure. The signs of kidney failure include loss of appetite, vomiting, and
lethargy.
